New Displays @ Our Store

If you have been to our store of late - you would have seen the new displays that we have at our store.  Yes ! and it made a huge difference - to our customers - they all love our point of purchase displays because they think it makes the store a lot neater and gives an illusion of a lot more space.  I like our new look too - and it was a good investment because all our displays were old ones and it was time for a revamping.  Plus they were made of cardboard - so it was easy to set up - we didn’t need extra help for setting the displays up - we did it ourselves.

Fix Your Xbox 360 Controller

No parents want to fork out $50 for a new controller - that’s for sure - and we sell used ones at our store for $35 - which is not cheap either - but we pay $20 for a used one when they come in - so one has gotta eat too right?  But thanks to Apartment Therapy - we can maybe - buy bad controllers for lesser - fix it on our own - and re-sell the for less too.  But of course - it can be time-consuming if you don’t know what to do.  But here are some tips you too can follow  - all credits goes to Apartment Therapy though.

With a T8 torx screwdriver and some how-to knowledge (ifixit put together a handy tutorial), you can revive that beat up controller on the cheap.

Worn down thumbsticks are a pretty common reason for purchasing a new controller. In order to replace them you’ll need some new thumbsticks (which can be purchased for just a few bucks on eBay) and a T8 torx screwdriver ($4.99 on Amazon). You can even swap out your standard gray thumbsticks for some all white or black ones.

If you’re looking for a new controller shell, replacing it is pretty straight forward. There are a number of cases out there, but you probably want to opt for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) shells for their quality. With a quick ebay search you can snag a new OEM case for around $10. Although third-party shells are available in a variety of colors, they can be pricier and a bit rough around the edges. There are however some inexpensive options on Amazon (and eBay if you just look around).

Always be aware of what controller parts you’re buying! Some cases come with thumbsticks/d-pad/buttons, while others don’t, so it really all depends on what parts you’re looking to replace. There’s money to be saved as long as you know what you’re looking for.

Camping With Our RV

Trying to get the best of the last summer sun - we sent our RV for some  motorhome repairs and upkeeps and headed up to Ellenwood Park with some friends for the weekend.  The park was surprisingly clean and had lots for the kids to do - from a playground to biking and swimming and canoeing - we had a really good time.  The washroom was really clean too - and that was a plus - although our motorhome has a bathroom too - but it was nice that we didn’t have to use it.   We loved that our motorhome is covered by insurance and they even covered the repair of our leaking refrigerator.  Pretty awesome right?

Not only that - if our  Motorhome breaks down during our vacation - we are also covered up to $100 a day for up to 10 days. So if you use your motor homes as much as we do during the summer - I figured you would get your coverage too by now.  It had been an awesome summer for us - what about yours?

Toshiba Satellite T115

So i read it looks like a netbook, costs the same as a netbook but it’s got an honest to goodness Pentium Processor from a PC magazine - therefore I had to take a look at it - afterall - I’m a techy chick right?  the T115 will cost $480 in the market - and i’m guessing i will be paying as much as such with a local supplier - since I can’t beat Staples prices or even Walmart if they do carry it.

The T115 is different from netbooks in one very significant way.  It houses a traditional notebook processor.  It has a single core, single thread, 45mn, 1.3 GHz Pentium M.  But hang on a minute - it doesn’t mean that this model will be good enough for gaming - in fact it’s not for gaming i heard because the graphics on it - is not as good as some.  But one thing I have to mentioned is - the battery life - it is said to run 5 hrs more than most on a full charge.  But if you are like me and types a lot - then you won’t like the keyboard feel - because it’s small - but overall - i would buy this - and not a netbook for its size.

Asus Maxiumus III Formula

The store just brought in a Asus Maximus III Formula for a customer and a closer look at it - I think it definitely is better than some I’ve come across.  I hear it overclocks higher on its own and tweaking the RAM to its fullest potential while keeping the system stable is also made far easier with the MIIIF’s Memperfect utility.  The best part i find is the remote monitory and the overclocking of the system via a USB connected machine. For now one can monitor POST codes using USB but maybe in the future , one can use a remote function to run diagnostics if you have an issue with the card.  Pretty cool right?   So the question now is - i’m sure you are going to ask me is how much is it?  $235 - was the best price we got.  So for those who are thinking of it - you know where to get them.

Men & Their Toys

Yes! they love it!  the atv he was looking at is not a new one - thank God!  else i don’t know many banks we have to rob - hahah!   But the spouse and the outlaws all love their rides - but you can’t really blame them - because if you know how much land the outlaws has - you will understand why they love to ride wild in the forest.   Luckily for me - he doesn’t go running out and get a new atv every year - like some fishermen that we have here do.

I’ve been on one - for one ride that belonged to the outlaws - and yes - it was fun but dirty - because the spouse insisted on going into swamps - full of flies and dirty water.  Their idea of fun is getting really dirty.  But he keeps a look out for a good price for a used ATV and read a lot on magazines on them too.  But boys will be boys - so i let him be - as long as he doesn’t go running out and get one new ATV every time a new model comes out.

Buy Cheap Game Systems/Games

Why do parents or grandparents insist on buying new systems for their kids when you can get them just as good from a used game store?  or even games - games are like $80 for the good ones - therefore, i never get my kids or the spouse any new games - i tell them to wait a bit and get a used one which is a lot cheaper and if you can wait even longer - you can even get it at half price.  Find a good and reliable used game store in your town and you can find treasures there.  The games and systems work just as good - all our systems and games are used and we never have a problem with them and if we do - we bring them back for a good buffing and it’s all set to go.  Plus with a used game store - once you are done with the games or wanna upgrade to another console - you can also get in-store credit for them.  Never go to big game store like EB games or GameStop - try your locally owned used game store because they are usually a lot fairer in trades.  Good luck all!

Gadgets On Sale - Wacom CTL460 Bamboo Pen Tablet

I can’t resist things on sale - and i’ve always wanted to get a Graphic Tablet for the kids - since they love drawing so much.  $54.39 after using this code from Apartment Therapy (w/ code SCHOOL15) - @ Super Biiz.  I remember selling our first Wacom tablet for more than a few hundred dollars to the ex-employee - ouchh!  So i hear you asking what is with this Graphic Tablet?

This graphi tablet is not only useful for those who loves to draw anime - it can be use as a mouse, and write on it to be transferred into your Word program or Open office and jsut about any PDF documents.  You can have handwritten notes and do your sketches and doodle for children and this product is compatible with Windows and Mac and only require a USB port to power up. If you use the Adobe Photoshop you are all set but if you don’t - no worries - i hear it is compatible with a lot of drawing programs.  If you have been eyeing to buy a tablet - this is the time - how can you go wrong with something less than $60 !  I’ve read so many good reviews about it - if you are someone with the tablet please share your experience with me.

LCD Projector For School

Last year when my kid attended her Grade Primary school - they had some fund raising they had to do.  But you see my kid has got some rich godmother, aunts and uncles from home - so she collected more than $400 in total and some were cash because these wonderful friends and relatives of ours didn’t want to collect the angels from the kid - that was used for her fund raising.   We had in turn asked the school what they want us to do with the money - and they had asked for an LCD projector instead.

So the spouse read up on many projector reviews for the right projector to get for the school and instead of getting them a projector screen with the LCD projector - we offered to paint their wall white for the use of the projector.   This year - they had asked for a pocket projector for easy traveling for the teacher who will be using it for her teaching for small classes - so if you have any to recommend - please leave a comment - we would like to hear from you all.  We already have a few in mind - which doesn’t cost an arm or a leg - thank God!  But if you have one that you are already using and works great for you - give me a shout eh.

Cover Your Laptops

Normally at our store - we don’t see something like that come in but many people/customers have had their laptop/s in filled with coke and juice and one even with cat’s pee - hahha!! yup! i kid you not!   Of course normal virus repairs and upgrades are definitely things one needs to pay for themselves and if you have lots of kids and/or prone to accidents - i’ve often wonder why they don’t get laptop insurance.  I mean look at the above picture?  no way we can save that for them right?  likewise for water/pop or juice in the laptop - no matter what we try - it just won’t work and by fluke if it does - well - it’s not going to last very long either.   So yes - people!!!  get some insurance !!! if you know your laptop might need it - especially if you have kids going to college or kids who are rough with their equipment!   I cannot stress hard and long enough but nope some people just won’t learn.
