So someone asked me – how do geeks shop for Christmas? in which I had to laugh because we shop for all our gifts online – wherelse and how else right? how can one be called a techy chick when we don’t find the best things in life on the internet. I shop for cigars for the outlaws and the uncles on an internet cigar stores – there are so many internet cigar stores to choose from – and when you find one that you like – you order from them always. I have some internet stores that I rely on for all my gifts – whether for myself, for the spouse or the kid – I know I can count on these stores for the perfect gift that you can’t find elsewhere. I don’t know what we would do without the internet eh.
During the summer, the spouse and his nephews from Toronto went treasure hunting at the Bunkers Island with some garretts metal detectors that they had been given for Christmas last year. So this year’s Christmas – the kid had asked for one of those metal detectors as well – in her Christmas wish list. I’m guessing the reason why she wanted one for her own is because her cousins didn’t let her play with theirs when they had gone to Bunkers island during summer – so she didn’t have a lot of fun. The metal detectors can be bought at a local store in the mall – and the prices range from $100 – $1000 – depending on how detailed you want the detectors to be. I read some reviews on the metal detectors – and some were said to be very good on detection and identification of the object and I want one that is easy to use – since the kid is so young. I also prefer a light weight metal detector for her, so that she don’t abandon it halfway through their treasure hunting. Oh well, I want her to have fun with her cousins during the summer – so we will go ahead and get that for her.
For those who’ve followed techy chick – you will know that we own an entertainment store – with a lot of console games and also speakers, tvs, stereos and anything that makes money. But we haven’t bought guitars before till this year – because the spouse aka the boss decided that he is interested in playing the guitar because he had been playing a lot of Rock Band and Guitar Heroes. Little did he know that the guitar chord on the real guitar and the ones for the games are completely different. But he is still determined to learn the instrument because you can find all sorts of tutorial online.
I did play the guitar when I was a teenager for church but I don’t like the electric guitars because the strings are very hard on the fingers but when it comes to the nylon aka classical guitar – I’m all for it. So while the spouse is fascinated with the electric ones – I’m looking out for the classical type and if one does come in – I might just pick up again on guitar playing and sing a song or two with the kid – for she loved to sing.
Yes! we do real shopping too – and I just helped one of my geeky friends get a custom engagement ring for his girlfriend for this Christmas. Woohoo!!! someone is getting married next year – and planning to ask his girlfriend on the eve of Christmas during his office party. So romantic or what! I would be really happy if the spouse had chosen a special place and date to ask me too – girls loved the romantic stuff. Reason why I was asked to help with the engagement ring was because he didn’t want to get a generic ring – he wanted something special – so I had to tell him what another geeky girl will like – and what I would have asked the jeweler for – and negotiate the price and so forth. So there – if you need help with shopping for a custom ring – your geeky friends are a good place to start – we know more about mushy stuff than you think we do.
I get to meet a lot of interesting people online – while I am gaming or when I do my online work – and in fact – I met my spouse online some 17 yrs ago. So when someone told me that he knows about some Psychiatric Technician Jobs online – to recommend – I don’t doubt it at all. In this time and age – it’s so convenient to move away – for a job – you find online – after all, I’ve met people who played online games and get married. I read a story on a mahjong community – how an Asian couple met while playing mahjong and they got together – hit it off and got married. So yes, being online can be really interesting – but of course, you have to stay safe too – and make sure you know the other party – before giving out personal information.
Every woman loves flowers – whether they are as geeky or techy as I am – they all loved flowers – and even though we say – don’t send flowers – or don’t waste you money – we still love the flowers. If you want to impress your girlfriend or your wife – make sure you send flowers to her at her office – or her work place. My co-worker uses Las Vegas flower delivery services to send flowers to his wife who was on a working trip at Las Vegas during her birthday – and guess what? it made her boss feel so bad that she was away from the family for her birthday – she was given a week off with pay – when she got home from her work trip. Pretty awesome right? and yes – girls of all ages feels really special when you send them flowers. But make sure you send the right flowers – because every kind of flowers means something. And you don’t have to wait for an occasion to send your special someone flowers – it can be just because – i loved the just because flowers.
Christmas is not too far away – and the spouse and I are thinking of getting some personalized pins with the store’s logo for our regular customers. We have thousands of movie rentals at our store at this moment. And a few hundred come thru’ our store every week – so we are hoping to get some personalized pins with our store logo and info on them to hand it out for promotional purposes. Hopefully, they will pin them on their bags or bookcases – that way when people do see them – they would take a second look at the unique logo – and find out what we are all about. I think it’s cheap advertising for us – and for the regulars – they would know that they are important to us and we will make it a point to suggest to them where to pin these personalized pins – so that they can be seen by a lot of people. Good idea eh! and like they say – you have to spend some money in advertising right? else you won’t see new customers coming into your store.
I don’t know much about Restaurant System but I definitely know a lot about restaurants and because IJ helped a few restaurants in town and in the county to do their website. An example is a friend’s restaurant in town and I know they are using the best restaurant system for their POS, so they have little problems with running the accounts on a day to day basis.
As for web designing for the restaurants – the restaurant usually bring me in to taste their food and take pictures the food they are serving. I love doing the websites for restaurants for the owners are super good to me – and always gives me treats plus I do make a lot of money doing their websites.
For those who knows me – you would know I loved to take pictures – even before I had a digital camera but I used to have to curb myself from taking too much because developing the pictures and buying the films for the pictures were very expensive back then. Now that I have a Canon digital camera – I of course have to take whatever I see – and not once but many times to get the right picture and right lighting. Thank God for rechargeable batteries eh! else I would be in big trouble – so whenever people asked me whether we sell batteries – I always recommend the canon batteries to them because I’ve had good luck with them all these years since I’ve had my first digital camera when my kid was born. So 7 yrs today – I still have my original canon battery and another spare one just in case I run out. So folks don’t forget to get rechargeable batteries for your digital cameras and all your other electronics that you need for your gadgets.
Blogging is awesome to be honest – I’ve come to meet a lot of people that I wouldn’t have – if it wasn’t for blogging. I wouldn’t know what to do intellectually if it wasn’t because of blogging and because of blogging – I’m kept aware of things around me and also I’m very much in touch with anything that is techy. I like my blogging friends a lot and some become really good buddies who sends me food from home that I otherwise cannot get here. And I also learned of products that I wouldn’t have if not for blogging, like EZBloomers.com custom floral arrangements . I loved sending flowers to friends and family on special occasions and I wished they had this info some 20 yrs ago – when the spouse and I start dating long distance. I would have sent him more gifts and flower arrangements to his mother and aunts on Christmases and Thanksgiving. And because of blogging I think I have more friends than I did when I was in college.
